# Are scams possible through openrent?

I found a property going for dirt cheap but the owner is in another country, saying to view we need to pay through openrent and then we get the key, if we don’t like it we send the key back and we then get a refund. otherwise the contract etc will all be done through open rent. he sent me a copy of his passport, but I am always sceptical. I don’t have time to waste on scams. can someone please help?

Definitely a scam.

Never give any money upfront. Landlords have the pick of tenant and prices are high so if they are throwing the “property” at you then be very sceptical.
