I have 5 properties of which 2 are with OpenRent. The other 3 are jointly owned.
I bought insurance for one of those three, but was unable to put both names on the application.
When I went to the insurance company to add the second owner, they charged me a fee!
Is there a way to add the second owner before requesting the insurance?
@Jeremy18 I have some insurances where they say that if you call them to do the admin, they charge a fee for it 
Not sure if it’d be allowed to add another party to it online. When I take out the insurances, on the application they ask for the name and I think there you can put down that there are two owners. I’ve done that on our house insurance.

Are they jointly owned with a spouse?
If a form asks you for the name of the owner and you put both down in the box for that, whats the problem. If the form wont accept.your entry give them a call.
Expect the insurer wants a single point of contact to deal with for the purpose of getting a premium paid, claims etc but otherwise what you record is up to you anyway.

Yes - joint with spouse.
I did think about putting my first name as e.g. “Name1 and Name2”, but they do credit checks so I suspect that would fail. (No idea why they do credit checks when I’m paying up front.)
Just speak to the insurance co and ask how best to complete.
They want to sell you the insurance so they will find the right way to fill in the form
I have insurance with two other flat owners for the building we own jointly as a freehold, there’s no problem putting all our names down as the joint owners
They will want to credit check to protect themselves- if you have high debts you might be more likely to claim fraudulently etc.

In that case I’m not sure you even need to. If your spouse jointly owns the property then either of you can probably talk to the insurer and if the worst happens, well, it would all pass to them anyway. What’s the necessity?
