I’ve been refused a 1 bedroom flat rental agreement because I’m 63 and the agency/landlord only accept tenants up to 60 years of age.
Is it legal?

Age discrimination doesn’t apply to tenancies, but this does sound egregious. I would contact Citizens Advice if I were you.

That is not illegal . eg flats are sometimes limited to over 60 s. Limiting an age is up to a landlord . I have no one under a certain age in my places

Can I ask what is the objective justification. I still cannot understand why I’m refused a renting, being a full time professional of 63 years of age.
Nor can i but I take older people over younger, as my experience shows mostly more reliable. I have had better female tenants than males. Each landlord will have had different experiences which will colour their attitude
Whilst age discrimination is possible in letting, it has to a “proportionate means of achieving a legitimate aim”, so unless its something like retirement accommodation or a student house, its challengable.

A landlord may have concerns on affordability into retirement when income will presumably reduce. Older people are also more likely to have illnesses that could impact their income and therefore afforadbility of rent. Clearly looking at whole picture and assessing tenants as individuals rather than blanket bans would be a better policy.
