I have a property with 3 people sharing under one joint short term tenancy. One is a student, 2 are not and council tax is therefore due. The 2 non-students are vacating the property early but not cannot terminate part of the lease so will still pay rent.
Can I declare to the council that only one student is then resident and therefore obtain Council Tax exemption?
Should I get the tenant to declare they have vacated in writing as evidence for the council?

1 student is 0% council tax but they are on the lease there fore council tax is applicable
If council challenge it you have non students on a lease
You could try and write to council and state only once occupant is a student and other two have left and see what happens
Really your contract should match occupancy in case of challenge
