A landlord will usually perform a credit search which will show up CCJs, IVAs, debt accounts, previous addresses etc.

It will give an indication of a tenants attitude towards debt.

Do you have a poor credit score, have you checked your own credit profile?

Some landlords will accept tenants with a less than perfect credit profile but will require a guarantor for example or rent up front.

Yes most landlords (well in my opinion decent ones) will do a credit check and a background check they are potentially letting you lease one of if not the most valuable thing they own so they want to be sure you will
1 be able to afford it
2 look after it
3 be there throughout the tenancy
