Many individuals post on this site . Why do you not all declare if you are a Landlord ,tenant, Estate agent, Manage property, Lawyer etc . ? Then we would know how much weight to give to your comments… I clearly show and state I am a Landlord and Builder. But I can see that some people have never revaled what their position is. ---

Why do you assume that we can only be acting out of self interest? I am a landlord, but if I make suggestions to a tenant I always advise what I believe is in their best interest. ---

I never said SELF interest (which has implications of selfishness). . and I did not name you or anyone else. Some posters do not identify their occupation .so you cannot judge if they know what they are talking about. ---

A lot of landlords don’t know what they are talking about. They just think the world should serve their interest and treat tenants like dirt. Knowing what you are talking about is a matter of intelligence, not how many houses you own. ---

I’m a van driver with a flat that I rent out. Becoming a landlord is a steep learning curve so I’d say a landlord with several properties can give better advice. If a landlord with several properties is also a builder he must know a thing or two. Stuart. ---

wow you have a huge chip on your shoulder. You must have been treated badly by a landlord ( in your opinion). I do keep a selection of chips, I can send one for your other shoulder to level you up. We are all treated good and bad by other humans in life in different areas of occupation , but an intelligent person will not tar everyone with the same brush. There are good and bad landlords and good and bad tenants ---

Stuart 3 Spot on about the learning curve . One property or more matters not we can all learn from each others experiences. I have had a great deal of experience in property alterations as I trained as a joiner. But I am not so hot on all the paperwork and there is more and more of that. So I ring up the RNLA when I need advice . ---

I do not quite know how to relax even tho I have a spectacular garden with a river running thru it . in N.Wales… I like work, I love my jobs and have good tenants, and even better children. What more can you ask for…? ---

Thanks for your reply Prafula. Dad worked on site in the 1960’s building the houses. He sold his car to get a deposit to buy this one. Married Mum & I was born there a year later. ---

An inveterate traveller, having lived in 40 different properties around 8 different countries, not including temporary accommodation on first arrival in a new country, and long holidays. I’ve also handled all my own property related legal disputes, and court hearings. We developed 23 properties, 20 currently for let, all designed, built / converted and refurbished, in the majority with our own hands, since 2000, except the 3 in Thailand, where we now live, semi-retired, since I can get labour / tradesmen who work all day for the same as an hours work from the UK equivalent, and my back won’t stand the strain anymore, and it’s too hot 😉 Everything we have, we worked darned hard and long hours for, taking many a risk with financing. I’ve lived in my fair share of rented properties in UK and around the world, so know well the other side of the coin. Certainly no privileged existence, as some may imagine. As the saying goes -“the harder you work, the luckier you become”… Like Colin and Stuarts Dad, I find it hard to switch off, and am in regular contact with our property managing agent in UK. We also have planned further developments on our land in Thailand for a natural swimming lake, a large pool villa and 24 apartments, once the constraints of the dreaded lurgy are overcome. Got to keep your hand in! As others have said, there are good and bad in all walks of life, and one has to walk in those shoes before considering themselves qualified to comment or criticise. ---
