Hi all, please help an anxious girl here! I paid holding deposit on open rent for a flat to rent. The landlord after 24 hours asked for references via the website as I got an automatic email asking to fill in references. However 2 days later (yesterday) I got another automatic email saying that we are waiting for landlord answer and if not replying within 96 hours total the deposit will be returned to me. We submitted references, maybe it’s a glitch of open rent system? Thanks
Was the referencing link from Openrent? If so, I don’t understand why you’d still be getting these reminders.
If the Lamdlord chose to use an alternative Referencing agent, then Openrent won’t know about that & will continue to chase Landlord for 96 hour decision.
Has the landlord agreed to accept your holding deposit?
The holding deposit can cause confusion and many landlords prefer to reference people before taking it off the market which happens when they accept your holding deposit. It is best to get agreement from the landlord before submitting holding deposit, its likely they are seeing other tenants and its unlikely to be first come first served.

@Elena25 if LL didnt actually ask you to pay holding deposit you shouldnt do so which is a little .. presumptuous - once LL accepts it the listing is no longer visible and LL legally not allowed to market the property meanwhile, so LLs may be reluctant to accept a holding deposit before they have referenced you.
