He is asking me to withdraw holding deposit and pay directly and upfront.

This guy has a lot of other propertied listed and he has been on open rent for 2 years…

HOWEVER…
Seeing a profile with multiple listings and a two-year history can make a landlord look safe, but this is a deliberate tactic used by sophisticated scammers.

How Scammers Hijack and Use Aged Profiles

  • Stolen or Bought Accounts: Scammers frequently buy, hack, or phish old, legitimate OpenRent accounts to bypass initial fraud filters.
  • Bulk Fake Listings: Once inside an account, they upload dozens of fake listings simultaneously to target multiple victims at once.
  • Copied Descriptions: If you look at his other listings, they all use the exact same template: “FLEXIBLE TEMP STAY - 1/6 MONTHS - SHORT/MID LETS ONLY”. They steal photos from real corporate lets or Airbnb properties to create these profiles.

What makes you think this is the act of a scammer? A holding deposit can either be paid via Openrent or directly to a Landlord.

Its unclear what he is asking you to do. Withdraw it from where? Pay upfront ‘before what’… before viewing… before move in… before referencing…???

I think you perhaps should provide more information.

Also, there is a ‘report listing’ button on all Openrent listings. If you have doubts you could click that & report to OR.
