Does a Declaration of Trust need to be executed as a deed?

Hi All

I own a rental property in my own name only. I want to transfer 50% share of the property to my wife by creating a bare trust.

I understand a Declaration of Trust can be used to create the bare trust for this purpose.

Does the declaration need to be executed as a deed?

Yes, I beleive it needs to be a Deed of Trust followed by form 17 to HMRC to vary the beneficial ownership.
