Furnished flat with a bunch of items I wasn’t expecting

I have rented a furnished flat and it comes with a bunch of things that I already have and don’t need. I have asked the landlord to remove, however he has asked me to store these items but I have no space in the one bed apartment. The inventory report has some items listed and some items not listed, but there are pictures with these items in. Am I within my right to ask for the items not listed in the report to be removed? These include some blankets, a duvet and some pots and pans. Thank you.

@Jiahang you can ask anything you like but what matters is the contract. Try explaining you don’t have space to store (but how about under bed using vac packed storage bags to compress duvet down). Try seeing if you can store some if LL will take others or if LL would mind if you sell and give LL the proceeds. LL wants the least hassle but a little bit of compromise goes a long way sometimes. Remember LL wants you to stay but will have spent £ on the items and won’t want to spend more storing them because they happen not to be what you need- a future tenant may want these.

The fact items are in inventory photos but not listed out in writing is totally irrelevant- you and LL both agree these have been provided as part of the furnished flat and are present as the LL’s furnishings as shown in the photos and signed inventory accordingly.

You will have signed a TA, you should read what it says about the responsibilities you have signed up to about taking care of the LL’s furnishings etc. All of them. Just like any other things in the flat that you may not like but probably aren’t allowed to change (wall colours ? Etc). If you wanted a choice of what would be provided taking account of what you already had, you could have discussed with LL before signing contract or soon after and avoided the problem. You might also find LL is more amenable to helping you with this after you have been there for a year or two and look like you aren’t moving soon/are there for the long term.

Good luck
