Holding Deposit Taken

What do I do when somebody pays a holding deposit through the openrent website??
Little background we do everything through goodlord including taking the holding deposit.

Do I have to reject them?

Some prospective tenants will submit a holding deposit before being asked to basically jump the queue.

If you didn’t request the holding deposit, you should reject it.

If you asked for the holding deposit you should accept it which means the advert will be suspended while you reference the application.

If you prefer to use another platform then you will need to reject it and communicate to the applicant that they should pay deposit into your chosen account. In which case the advert will not be automatically suspended.

Do you automatically get your holding deposit returned as we paid 850 deposit 7 years ago and theres been 5 other landlords on the same property take over n that time.

£850.00 I assume this would have been the security deposit. If so, the landlord can claim for any damage (excluding fair wear and tear) or non payment of rent. If everything is okay, you should get it back within 30 days.
