Hi. I’m new to open rent and I placed a holding deposit. How long do I have to wait until the LL makes a decision. Can they accept other holding deposits from other possible tenants whilst I have already paid a deposit. I can see I am the only one who has placed a holding fee. Any advice would be great as I need to move out by end of month.
What did the Landlord say when he invited you to place the holding deposit ?

Unless LL invited you to place the holding deposit I’d advise against doing so tbh. If that’s what happened withdraw your application.

They can only accept 1 holding deposit at a time and while accepted the property is taken off the market. So unless the LL wants to do that and proceed with next steps (referencing etc) they won’t ask you to place a holding deposit

I saw the LL friend and I messaged today asking for an update they said they will get back to me when he has spoken to the friend as they live abroad.
They didn’t ask me to I got a message from open rent on how my viewing went and the message if I wanted to place a holding deposit to rent the property so I did and I have confirmation that it’s under offer but LL has to accept to proceed.
So you did what an automated message told you without thinking. I would assume the LL will say no.
You look like you have presumed they want to go ahead with taking off the market and referencing you without bothering to ask or even discuss with them if there’s anything more they’d like to know from you before going ahead with that.
Maybe message the LL to explain and offer a phone call or video chat if they have any questions, explaining you’re very keen as you have a deadline to move from current place

do not put all your eggs in any one property… keep looking at other properties until you get the keys for one. LLs can mess applicants around as much as vice versa so keep an open mind and don’t take it personally.
