I own a flat in a small block of seven on top of a retail unit. Collectively we look after the running and maintenance of the whole property.
The flat owners have formed an association to take care of the building (instead of the landlord) however nobody seemingly wants to prioritise the responsibilities of the association and commit to keeping the building to the required standard. Equally, no one is enthused by the prospect of returning the maintenance responsibilities of the building to the landlord who will likely double the service charges we are currently paying.
My question is, if I am to solely take on the responsibilities for the Residents Association on the other members’ behalf, what’s the best way of protecting myself if there are any problems e.g. failed building repairs, or indeed disgruntled owners should a dispute arise? Would it be beneficial to set up a limited company up to do this - and be paid by the RA through this vehicle - or am I better off receiving the funds as an individual and not complicate matters?
Thanks for your help!
