We have rented a house on a fixed 15 month term and paid a year up front, however things in the house are not being fixed by the landlord and we want to look elsewhere.. would I get any money back from the 15 month term? Say we move in November and the term ends in February
In May, the landlord should have sent you an information sheet on the Renters Rights Act which came into force on the first of that month. If they didn’t, they’ve committed an offence. However, if you have that document, it should clarify that your fixed term tenancy ended on 1 May and became an Assured Periodic Tenancy that allows you to serve a 2 month notice to quit at any time from that date. You should do some internet searching on the legal requirements for the notice to make sure you get it right.
