As I’ve said elsewhere, a checkbox is not straightforward. You are essentially asking landlords to limit themselves to the OR referencing process and nothing else. Only a foolish landlord could commit to that in advance.

David suggests “ask for their GDPR privacy notice and possibly ICO registration number before sharing sensitive information directly.” If anyone asks me for this I would say “computer says NO” I stand on my history and personality, not some jumped up lefty legislation.

Rent now stops anyone else applying. The LL hasnt met you, doesnt know if you can afford ect,ect. Why would any LL go along with this ?
well, to be fair to Theresa May, she had no choice. It was EU legislation that was applicable to us at the time.
In any case rights to protect (or to access) information is neither right or left wing. Like the magna Carta or the bill of rights.
