New energy efficiency grants

I know the scheme has just been announced and details are scarce (nothing new there then) but I plan to uprate the old boiler in one of my properties. To do my bit for the planet, I want to install solar panels on another, but it seems the panels have to be owned by the person claiming the money for the electricity produced and the elec meter has to be in their name. This means I would have to take on the electricity contract from the tenant and then charge them for net consumption. I might be prepared to do that, but how would that fit with their right to choose their supplier?

Anyone got any first hand experience of solar panels on a rented property?

If the money generated by the solar panels would go to the tenant then I’d expect them to be amenable to your taking over the electricity account. You could offer to choose a supplier based on their suggestion but double check the clause with a solicitor.
