Hi my property is a 3 bed house in a residential area and my tenant has been in situ about 3 months now but has emailed me stating the neighbours behind are making noise from music and this is affecting them working from home. I have never lived at this property and was wondering what involvement I am liable to make if any?
It is not your issue. They should report to environmental health
Well, it kind of is your issue because if this T decides to leave due to the noise, it’s likely you’re going to have an ongoing issue with Ts not getting on with neighbours over this. That could cost you in the long run as you experience voids.
The T needs to document exactly what they can hear and when it happens plus duration. They should keep this record for a month for the purposes of making an environmental health complaint to the council. If you can be in the property when the noise is occurring that would really be helpful both to sympathise with the T and also to hear for yourself just how bad the noise is.
Do you know neighbours? Has T politely and calmly explained issue to them? What was their response?
Even though you want happy tenants, there’s nothing you can do…or should do.
Telling a neighbour to make less noise isn’t going to achieve anything…infact it may make the situation worse.
The tenant could use a decent headset like an Avaya or a Jabra speak 2 55.
I use the Jabra and someone could be mowing the lawn or the washing machine could be on the spin cycle and no-one gears a thing.
