I have the situation of having a Smile Bank Account, which is part of The Cooperative Bank (which has recently been bought by Nationwide). Smile use Open Banking but are not listed in the OpenRent guarantor portal and you cannot use a Smile login with the Co-op or Nationwide portals. This feels like an OpenRent implementation error for Open Banking as the portal doesn’t list all Open Banking capable banks. Does anyone have experience of working around this sort of thing? I have lodged a query via the help screen.
Hi Phil,
We provide a full list of the banks we support for Open Banking here:

If you have any more questions we’d advise contacting our customer service team here: FAQs | OpenRent
I did and they were useless. They just sent ,e the same list of banks that is given in the reference process. My reply even included a link to the pages on the Smile website explaining to customers how Open Banking works. The credit score bit worked on the reference and I have messaged the landlord but I am not impressed by OpenRent at all. I get the clear impression that you have a simple process that only works for PAYE employees of larger companies as you list an incomplete set of banks that operate Open Banking with no alternative. You also expect regular payments to confirm income and not everyone is paid like that. As it happens I am as I am in drawdown on my pension but the failure of your Open Banking implementation stalled that approach.
