Hi, just wondered if any of you use Openrents rent guarantee insurance?.
I usually get it from Alan Boswell and it’s discounted to £195 if you also have buildings insurance with them as well.
One advantage I can see with the openrent policy is openrent have done the referencing to then decide if you can have the insurance or not.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
@Martin90
Openrent having done the referencing doesnt mean anything. And have you seen the recent Panorama showing how easily OR right to rent checks were circumvented by fake IDs… (they are probaby no worse than others)
There was a case reported here a while ago where OR’s RGI refused to pay because they said there was a problem with the OR not properly getting employer refs Broker vs Insurer row - landlord suffers | LandlordZONE
I use Alan Boswell because it’s cheaper than OR and is a which best buy (less of a difference in price if you add their legal cover)
Best
Openrent’s RGI is supplied by LegalforLandlords, their referencing is done by in house AI I think. If I were you I would call LegalforLandlords and double check that Openrent’s referencing is sufficient in the event of a claim. You will also need to get a signed professional inventory. Get LegalforLandlords to send you the contract and read it carefully.

Or use LegalforLandlords’ own referencing?
I would choose the insurance policy first then find what referencing works for that provider.
Good luck
