Question re notice period

The information had to be given by the 31st of May. She gave notice I think on the 20th. She hasn’t received the 4 page PDF by her landlord by the time she gave notice, nevertheless the new law was already in place unbeknownst to her. She looked into it a few months ago she said, but at the time it was still 1 month notice. I doubt she’s the only person who got caught out by this. No need to be so rude, try to be a bit kinder and more empathetic.

It was not rude just facts, one cannot blame others for one’s own short comings.

Everyone has shortcomings, I’m sure you do too and everyone needs help once in a while. It’s good to be kind to each other and help each other, surely that’s the purpose of forums like this. Not knowing something she’s not been communicated is not a shortcoming IMO. She was not blaming anyone as far as I could see, she was just stressed and needed a bit of help.

@AJ37

I think lots of LLs see us as a group constantly attacked in the media and by the gov and.often unfairly- as well as by tenants in posts here. There’s no tv shows called ‘great landlord wonderful tenants’.

In this case the LL has accepted 1/2 month less rent when didnt need to. We dont know if LL is stressed and relying on rent to pay for healthcare bills..

LL could do with a bit of empathy too we’re not all Rigsbys

And youll find landlords here who 'didnt know about the new rules ’ get short shrift too

So some of the reactions you got were a bit understandable if judgemental- but which of us never judged anyone esp.in haste. Its v easy online

Good luck

Good points and all true!

It’s not easy to be a LL! I just wish all of us had tenants like the friend I was trying to help!

I’m glad it all worked out, the house is in a good location and easily rentable as there is high demand, estate agents have tenants waiting, barely any properties available, I suspect that’s why the LL agreed to 1.5 months and because they were really good tenants, kept the place in good state of repair, paid on time, which we know is not always the case. I’m glad it worked out for them in the end and they got to an agreement that seems to suit both parties!
