Reference (employer)

My proposed has not rented before so cannot provide a previous landlord reference. Can I ask for an employer reference and proof of permanent contract? Can I request this on Open Rent?

Cheers all

@Otis1

Yes. Pay OR to do a referencing report

You still need to do right to rent checks

Good luck

Openrent start the reference process with a process to verify the income via Openbanking. It does not as standard verify that the employment is permanent.

Upon receipt of the the ‘initial’ reference report, it will explain how you may if you wish still request a written employment reference as part of the process. You do this online via the portal.

One of the questions on a formal reference is ‘employment status’.

just to check - if i have interest from a couple who state there is joint income of (for argument’s sake) - £75k, the referencing feature on OpenRent will be for only one of them, is that correct?

Outside of the OpenRent system - can i (and should I) request from them directly the other person’s proof of income?

thnx

@Alpha1

No, you get references for them both and OR will consider the combined income for affordability purposes if you are advertising as a joint tenancy.

Both need referencing anyway as both need id checks, both need credit checks, both need employer/income checks.

Ask OR how the process works if not sure

You also need separate to OR referencing to do right to rent checks for both

Good luck
