Hello, does anyone know how referencing works for self employed? How many years worth of tax return is required? Thanks, Sulan
Long time since I had a mortgage 20 years ago it was 3 years of good accounts
Surely it’s not 3 years for tenant referencing? I had a couple view my property and they didn’t think they’d pass referencing as both newly self employed with only 1 years worth of tax return.

sorry I thought you meant for a tenant to get a mortgage
on the other hand I am a landlord I have been self employed all my adult life. tenants who come to me and are self employed I do not feel one years accounts are enough I would want to see 3 years of growth . S/E can be a hard life I have known how hard starting off is

I’d agree with Colin. One year is no indication of anything in self-employment. My own self-employed income varies widely year on year. So, I’d say yes to three years of accounts.
It also matters what they do for self-employment. Some occupations are financially riskier than others.
