Reposit Question

@mod_harry I used Reposit for my tenants deposit on their request. It’s apparently not “Government backed” what should I do?

My understanding is that Reposit doesnt take any funds from the tenant for the deposit, so yhe deposit protection rules dont apply.

Reposit isn’t a deposit so it doesn’t have to be protected in an approved scheme

Google ’ Deposit Replacement Schemes: Everything You Need to Know’ and choose the OR page. Im sure OR assert it’s a perfectly legal alternative to the govt backed deposit schemes so there is nothing ‘to do’ or they wouldn’t offer it as an option

Basically the tenant isnt actually providing a deposit therefore it doesnt need to be protected in one of the govt schemes. Instead they are paying for an insurance policy that protects against damage.

Hi @Samantha17

As some other comments have highlighted, Reposit is a deposit replacement, so the typical rules with deposits don’t apply here.

Tenants will have to pay one weeks’ rent to Reposit at the start of the tenancy and then an annual renewal fee of £30.00.

At the end of the tenancy the landlord can claim up to eight weeks’ rent to cover the costs of any damages or unpaid bills during the tenancy

The insurance company would cover the initial pay out to the landlord and recover their costs from the tenants. The landlord and tenants have access to the insurance company’s free arbitration service in the event of a dispute.

We have some more guidance on this in our help centre here.
