Which jurisdiction runs a surplus ?
Where is this place with all the surplus and low taxes Susan 25?
I want to move there ( I think) Please tell us where it is . I am keen… hang on I have it . It is … cloud cuckoo land
No need to be rude, I know every Brit still thinks Britain is great, ops but many on social media now want to get out so maybe not… Demark Qatar and Hong Kong. Hong Kong is obliged to balance the books, they had a rare deficit but its very rare, the covid crack down was strict. Individual tax starts at 2% most pay 15 % up to 390k sterling, Then 16% for a higher income bracket for a single person more if you are married, Corporate tax is 16.5% but you can expense a lot more than UK. Live in helpers are about 500 sterling a month work 6 days a week 24 hours a day. We have no inheritance tax, no capital gains tax, no VAT and tax on investments shares etc. We also have one of the lowest crime rates and safest cities in the world. We still retain the infrastructure of the British now that we are no longer British. We have no property managing agents because dont need them. You rent for 2 y w a 14 month break clause you pay the rent then sign a new contract or move on, we have no stupid fire regs, not certificates, gas safe checks are free, they knock on the door check your gas appliances you sign it no fee, Fire… basically we go by the don’t be stupid and burn the flat down logical no? no licensing fees, no councils. Hardly a crime goes unsolved and police will come out for any event. Plus guess what we have more privacy than UK!
Seriously! Hong Kong given the new restricted freedoms. Qatar given their human rights record. With this post and your previous recommendation, I would have to urge other members to think twice about your judgement.
in fact, they’re already there
No I actually agree with you, you just have to look how bad this country is at infrastructure projects, Elizabeth line, HS2 the worst is The Lower Thames crossing According to reports, over £800 million has been spent on the project so far, including technical surveys, land purchasing costs, and the application process. The planning application alone has cost more than twice the amount it took to build the world’s longest road tunnel in Norway…anyway off topic a bit
Anyway I have a better understanding of CGT now, as I only own one property and have lived in it for most of the time I would pay very little tax. I did speak to my accounant who charged me rather alot for not even an hours meeting in regards to incorpating my propery I wasn’t impressed with his advice. Looking online the general advice is don’t bother if you only have one property.
We lock up people here now for desenting comments online …
can you link us to an example of someone being jailed for disagreeing with someone online?
Plenty of instances in UK of doors being knocked on for Twitter posts and for commenting online and arrests, just google it. Any your comments above are inappropriate to say the least. When China took back Hong Kong they made a decision not to have the PLA on sight in Hong Kong, they PLA have never been around in Hong Kong. We have an effective Police force who attend to all matter be they a disruptive neighbour or a crime. @David122 your comments are also inappropriate - have you ever been to Hong Kong? I do not have any restricted freedoms but as @Paul89 states you do in UK… who lives in a police state? not Me… you do.
I asked for instances of “someone being jailed” as claimed. Answer came there none, strangely.
If you think the police don’t watch your every move in Hong Kong then you are sadly incredibly naive. Try posting criticism of the Chinese government on social media in Hong Kong to discover whether you really “do not have any restricted freedoms”. You’ll get more than your door knocked on.
The 70,000 Hong Kong residents have sought refuge in the UK over the last two years haven’t come here for the weather you know.
Oh, well thats ok then. The regime works for you. Scr*w the rest of the population.
So you are just being argumentative then, I just googled Who in UK has been jailed for Social Media posts - its a long list - take a look but heres a warning " 16 Aug 2024 — The United Kingdom has ramped up its censorship efforts, now taking the extraordinary step of jailing its own citizens for making “hateful” social media posts." Why would I criticise the Hong Kong Government… go back to what we enjoy here V what you dont get in UK. I have no problem if my every move is watched as I’m not breaking any laws but those who do break laws will be found here V UK where the cops solve very few crimes even if they have time to attend. I can tell you that you have far more cameras spying on you in UK than we do here. The HK residents leaving most left to educate their children overseas - and yep they aren’t liking the UK - can you blame them? And of course UK wants Hong Kongers they are highled educated, don’t typically go out every Friday get drunk and smash things up as they are disciplined. But it’s the number of Brits who now want to leave UK which is far more interesting. We have great fish & chips here so they will fit in just nicely.
Yes, the HK regime only clamps down on law-breakers such as people joining praceful protests or campaigning for more freedoms or publishing articles about perceived injustices.
Im out of this thread, so feel free to have the last word. Other forum users now have enough information to make up their own minds about your recommendations.
Cloud cuckoo land again
That was from the Standing for Freedom Centre and contains not a single account of anyone being jailed for “disagreeing with someone” online. It does, however, contain many factual examples of people being arrested (not imprisoned) for inciting violence online.
If you don’t know, maybe you should ask Jimmy Lai.
