Service charge from 2016

Hi We have just been hit by charges from our service provider to cover a faulty electricity meter which has not been supplying the correct information to themselves for common area lighting etc since 2016. Hence they have not paid their bills properly since this time.Their own accounting procedures have not picked this up. Is there a statute of limitations on this? We only bought the flat in 2019 so surely we cant be liable for this period at least.

Suggest you search ‘energy back billing’ on OFGEM website. An energy supplier cannot back bill beyond 12 months so unless they have previously sent a bill, they cannot charge you for electricity used prior to Oct 2023.
