Tenancy deposit scheme

Advise me please on the tenancy deposit scheme. I received an email telling me mine is about to expire . I used the tds insured option where I keep and manage the deposit. Do I just pay them the amount to renew? Also I created a new contract as the couple split and only her name on it, so I assume I can edit him off when I renew? Thanks for any advice.

that sounds like a mess waiting to happen. Assuming she can afford the rent on her own, I would have got one of them to serve notice as per the contract and then had him hand back keys when the notice expired. I would have done a check out, released deposit to them and then started a new contract with just her, reprotected deposit and re-served all paperwork. Basically, it’s the same process as if you have a tenant leave, a vacant property and then a completley new tenant come along.

If youve created a new tenancy with just one of the 2 tenants, then its a completely different tenancy and the deposit for the joint tenancy doesn’t apply to it. That should have been refunded.

How did you end the joint tenancy, or didn’t you?
