Yes, regarding full Council Tax Payments as far as I can tell, at least on the edge of London, like Croydon ---

Tax includes unfair tax like Stamp Duty and Inheritance Tax as well as earnings, so selling up may also be impacted. How else can the government not go bankrupt, even if it slows down or stops infrastructure projects? ---

I agree with Amy8 and Sam regarding rent modifications: simply get the tenant(s) to agree in writing by email what has been proposed, and your agreement to their (counter) proposal by email. As a Landlord, you can change this at any time using the same mechanism. My tenant has asked over the phone to pay back over a much longer period, having already agreed by email to pay back over six months. I did not confirm the longer period as my response by email as I wish to see how things evolve, and my tenant may be kicked out of the country in any case within weeks, so no point in agreeing a longer period at this time. ---

Hi Geoff, Thanks for the information. Unfortunately yours is a different council, and they all have independent control over what they charge. I still maintain the single occupancy discount should be applicable to an empty property at least. Is there anybody out there that has a different rate in the Kirklees Council district? I’m sure this crisis will ultimately influence some casual landlords to quit the business, and the more the sentiment continues regarding unfair treatment and untenable legislation, it’s likely many will follow. ---

yes Sefton in Liverpool even if a single tenant has lived there give a month free empty, then the full council tax .so they are then getting more than if a single person lived in it. Most councils are rip off merchants as the goverment squeeze them and then they squeeze the public. ---

You’re lucky Colin, we even have to pay from the day the tenant moves out, which is their day in occupation, that they are paying rent for. I’m considering coming back to UK to finish off a development I started the groundworks for, so you might see my face on tv when I start campaigning for a fairer deal for private landlords. I love a good fight… I will be looking into all the very large new developments of, so called student, studio apartments in Huddersfield, to see what they are committed to in terms of council tax during vacancies. I bet you’re bottom dollar they aren’t paying, and I also bet they don’t restrict tenancies to students! Have a look on Rightmove in HD1, you’ll see what I mean. ---

Hi Chris, I agree with you totally, the rate for a vacant property should be discounted by 25% The virus pandemic will impact the prs to what extent remains to be seen ---

Cris35 I wonder do housing associations pay council tax when their places are empty? I know they are not subject to the same. regs as private landlords for inspections by the council. “a fairer deal for landlords” , if you get 10% of that you can be KING Chris !!! I would be happy if a tech savvy guy could set up a landlords list of tenants they would avoid. Landlords associations and agents will never do this ---

6 months correct …then the goverment gave option to the local councils to make up their own rules and they did so. and guess who was in the firing line ---
