I was a previous user (tenant) on Openrent. On August 2023 I rented a flat from a private landlord in Bristol, UK. He owed me more than 2000 pounds and blocked my messages. I raised a claim last year, the landlord has a CCJ now and he is under the enforcement currently (the warrant of control was issued last month). Now I found this landlord is still renting flats on Openrent (latest update was 12 hours ago - he just rented out a flat).
I expect to know, won’t the platform verify landlord’s identity? He may continue to deceive more tenants in a similar way.
I had a glance at the historical topics from the Openrent community, most discussions are about tenants with CCJs, while there are no discussions about landlords having CCJs. Thank you.
You’ve queried whether the platform checks the identity of Landlords. Is this relevant to the CCJ.. eg they lie about their identity in your case? If so, then I suggest you have justification in ‘reporting the listing’ via the relevant link on the current property advert page.
Otherwise, just because you have had a dispute with the Landlord, and have been financially wronged, doesn’t mean you can stop them doing their legitimate business with others.
Likewise, just because a Landlord has a CCJ, doesn’t mean they can’t be a Landlord in the future.
Deposit (mainly) and some other overpaid expenses. He didn’t even put the deposit into the government-approved scheme. After the tenancy I asked him to return the deposit he blocked me.
Yes, I did, I claim this with other overpaid expenses. This all included in the total amount listed in CCJ issued on Jan 6,2025. However he haven’t paid anything till now and keep renting his flat on Openrent
