Is it possible to avoid CGT by living in a previously rented property for a period of time. I’m suggesting 1year plus ?

It’s a proportion of the time you have owned it,
Ie 60% rented 40% residential
You get 40% plus nine months
Not possible to avoid. Just pay what you owe …

yes, but the govt gets less money to run the country/flush down the toilet [delete as appropriate]
You cannot avoid it but there are some reliefs available eg if you have lived in it or improved it. You can also offset buying & selling costs. See the Govt CGT calculator.
