My money is on a cockup. Only the thickest of tenants would think that they can get away with not paying council tax by faking moving out and then be able to keep it hidden from landlord.

âa large council tax billâ, since October, irrespective, the tenant could always give you a redacted copy of their bank statement showing both rent and council tax payment.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I have emailed the council with evidence of rental payment but so far had no reply, which isnât really surprising as last time that I emailed them with a problem it took 4 months to get an answer. No point phoning again as the operators donât seem to know whatâs going on . Will just have to wait and see if they send a further bill now!
correct about the time it takes⌠6 months for me to get a welsh refund and 3 months for west lancs to correct a mistake. Over the last 40 years L C ops have gone downhill
I would have thought that they have paid rent every month to date. If they had left they wouldnt. Surely thats proof enough without all the rigmarole.
Yes, you would have thought that!! The Council however had previously informed me that payment is not prooof but surely better proof than the AST that they requested which is meaningless!! Weâll wait and see!!
Good that you have given the council information in a timely way. that way if anything does go to court you have been reasonable. It is poor advice when people say ignore their letters. Councils often get it wrong, itâs highly automated process but as long as you have provided information in. timely way thatâs good. Obviously if you speak to anyone note down name and date and topic discussed.
One of my tenants went to prison yesterday and left all his stuff, thats going too be an interesting conversation with council tax!
