Is sun faded floor normal wear and tear?

Hi all,

In our living room there is a large south facing sliding door so the wooden floor in this room gets sunlight pretty much all day. We have a rug in the middle of the floor, and the floor around the rug has significantly faded due to being in direct sunlight while the wood under the rug is several shades darker. Just wondering if anyone knows whether this is normal wear and tear? I assume it must be as we haven’t caused any damage, the sun has.

Thanks

It may or may not be fair wear and tear. Was the rug provided by the landlord? Were window coverings provided that you didnt use to keep out the sun? Did the landlord raise the issue as a potential problem at the start of the tenancy? If the landlord claims for damage against your deposit, just ask for the deposit scheme to adjudicate if youre unsure of your liability.

“it wasnt me is was the water that caused the damage”.

Personally i think its reasonable wear and tear unless LL said no rug allowed. Presumably it would be dark in other places where there is any furniture?
