not true… depends on where they come from and what pre-travel vaccinations they’ve had. I brought three cats to the UK from the Middle East and they were out of Heathrow the afternoon of the day we arrived.
[quote=“Yldztek, post:17, topic:68497, full:true”] I’ll see if LL can negotiate with estate.
Solicitor says none of them is my problem as they gave me the consent

The solicitor is correct. You should not be getting involved in the landlords leaseholder responsibilities. Just take yes for an answer.
if it was me and I loved the cat I would bring it to the property and let it live there. I am guessing it’s a flat so when contract is up move to a place with a garden so it can have a run, I have lots of walkways and catifications in my garden to keep my cats amused.
certainly diarize the events, record the verbal agreement date and time and person.
regarding no signature on the AST, they must be sweating over that , its an absolute no no for a LL. for them to get you out would cost a lot of time and money.
heres an idea: ask for a face to face with the LL and say you will stay and pay for the 6 months …but … you wish to have the cat stay and maybe say you will pay if there is any serious damage.
if you haven’t signed a contract I think that is your strongest card. mention it in passing but not as a threat.
It seems you have not got really wrong with anyone so an amicable solution is very possible here if you just stay nice and balanced. That would suit me as a LL
The law is there and it’s useful to know…but its lumbering tool and moves very slowly. it polarises the people involved and usually its only the lawyers who walk away happy
This is not the start of a good relationship. Although it is not your problem, it will be on a long run. I (as LL) would end the tenancy when legal term ends to make sure I am compliant with terms of my lease. Yes it is my mistake but I don’t have to live with it when I have the opportunity to recover.
I have been in a similar position many years ago. Was up front about pet ferrets and arrived with my life in a van only to be presented with a contract stating no pets. Was honest and ended up agreeing to pay an extra £500 deposit. I covered the carpet with Lino and was a perfect tenant for years. The landlord was an absolute tool for the duration of the tenancy, and I fought to get any deposit back, involving a lawyer as mediator in the end! I would not have bothered being honest if I could foresee the future. My pacifist brother nearly punched him on move out day, he was so rude. He was an estate agent with several offices in the area which still bear his name even though I believe him dead.
Cats don’t bark so perhaps best to stay quiet in your position?
I say this as a landlord myself now who today let to a tenant with a dog very happily!
Thnx for the bad vibe. That depends on various factors and eventually no quarantine needed for mine.
Must have been a big operation. One cat was challenging enough for me
Thank you all for your comments. Eventually LL agreed and LA issued a letter to allow me having the cat in the flat. So the story has a happy ending here.
