Hi
I moved into a property 2 weeks back. My first property to rent in UK. The house stinks I thought it’s just a smell that was caused by the renovation painting and staff like that. Paint has dried out and the smell is still there and very strong I suspect it’s moisture from the carpets. How do i go about the house is not habitable with the smell. My lease is 6 months and that’s just too long with this smell.
I work outside of town so my mistake was i came and viewed the while it was under renovations and paid my deposit. Day to move in carpet not fixed and some doors.
@Tinashe2 have you been.intouch with the ll or LA document the conversations with them maybe even get them to pop round it MAY be something they are aware of and can recommend something it may be a quick fix issue
Why would it be.moisture from the carpets they would have to be wet or damp for that surely
Maybe it the adhesive if any was used for the carpets however after 2 weeks i wouldve expected it to dissipate
Speak to the ll pr LA explain.to them the issue and that youve given it time to fade away and that it hasnt and can someone attend the property and advise you
Maybe something has been dropped or left during the refurbishment or (and i dont know if this is feasible something has died ) which is causing it can you identify where the smell is strongest as that may give you an idea
I think, he meant, is it concrete under the carpet, or wood?
Any smell could be ‘in the wood’, especially pet urine etc.
Obviously wood upstairs, but may be concrete downstairs. Where is the small strongest in these areas? Ask the neighbours about who lived there before. Did they have pets? Did they appear to look after the property?
