PRS database rollout

Has anybody got any more information on the PRS database and which regions it is being rolled out in and when? Thanks

It starts on 15 December with the West Midlands region.

We are told that the PRS register has a purpose which is to protect tenants and allow them to be better informed about the property provider and identity and traceability. So where is the equivalent register of tenants on an equivalent database registry to better inform Landlord’s about that tenants suitability, identity and traceability. At the moment the landlord is a sitting duck and the tenant can move on with total anonymity and according to legislation have all the rights and no responsibility.

This also sounds suspiciously similar to the landlord licensing schemes already rolled out across many councils, which is supposedly a system used by local councils to regulate private rented properties, ensure health and safety standards are met, and crack down on rogue landlords. Surely this is a duplication of effort; why do we need yet another database for rental properties? Conveniently the gov website for the PRS doesn’t mention this. My cynical self thinks it’s just another money grab, and like the licencing scheme rolled out a couple of years ago, this new PRS will have questionable and intangible benefits to either landlord or tenant.
