Bath hair blockage issue

Hi landlords

I’m after a help, I know as a landlord I have to provide repairs and maintenance for the property. This is the second time my tenant cause a blockage in the bathroom bath with hair issues. I had to pay Danyrod to service again.

What could you recommend for a landlord to deal with this issue?

I previously provided a drain protector and listed on the tenancy contract that they need to apply a drain clean at least once a month.

Give them a plunger .They should clean their own waste trap. That maintaining is down to them

Charge the cost to the tenant

bear in mind that, depending on the chemicals they use, doing that regularly could well damage your pipework and, as you recommended they do it, you won’t be able to charge any repairs for that.

can they access the waste trap under the bath easily? If so, show them how to empty it and leave them to it.

You didn’t have to repair a blocked bathroom drain. That’s up to them as it’s down to their lifestyle.

Thank you I am glad I stated this type of cleaning the tenancy agreement. The problem was resolved. It is a common issue sometimes

Me as a tenant would not Bother my landlord with hair blocking the drain as mentioned above id buy a plunger, myself, it’s not expensive. If anything I would not be surprised if my landlord burst out laughing, if it were the case I’d ask him to mop the kitchen floor and hover the carpet and why not do a bit if dusting to. After all I’m not a child and he is not my parents lol

You can buy a sink hair strainer
They put it in the waste and it collects the hairs
On line it’s 38p from temu
They can dispose of the hair and your pipe is blockage free
It’s a few pence from Hardware stores
Does your contract defer drain blockage to tenants ?
If not it’s your responsibility
