Brexit and Right to Rent

The Landlords’ association to which I belong has advised that you should not ask prospective EU tenants if they have settled or pre-settled status until after June 30th. Until then, it is apparently illegal to do so. Seems odd to me.

Also, it is not required to confirm with existing EU nationality tenants whether they still have the right to rent even after June 30th. Again seems odd.

Any thoughts anyone?

That is correct. You don’t need to confirm anything further with an EU national until after the end of June.

Thank you David. I don’t understand the logic of not checking existing tenants have applied for or received settled status when you are supposed to check that other temporary residence permits had been renewed. Hey ho. I suppose looking for logic in anything to do with Brexit is a fool’s errand.

I’m sure we will be told in due course.
