Can social security benefits be used as proof of income?
Depends how much you receive, I personally get universal credit housing element for rent, universal credit sickness element and adult disability payment and it seems I meet the criteria, it depends on the landlord, it is discrimination, but a landlord can still may refuse you. I’m not sure why, as Universal Credit Housing Element can be paid direct to the landlords bank. Suppose it depends on your expenditure also though if you have a reference and Guarantor I don’t see a problem. What may happen is a landlord will comment and try say I’m wrong.
A LL cannot discriminate against people in receipt of benefits by law. However many LLs perceive the risk of someone on benefits falling behind in rent as greater than tenants in paid employment.
Absolutely. Even child benefit counts, and there are very few people not eligible for that who are going to rent property.
