Cancelled application , because i put holding deposit

I just applied to a property and i thought it would be nice to put a holding deposit as its challenging to find properties around my area. After some minutes i got my application rejected . The landlord responded “ im returning your holding deposit and cancelling the application because we dont accept holding deposits “

What do i do now? I really wanted to rent the property

Never send a holding deposit unless agreed with landlord first. (Why openrent allow this no one knows, it just annoys everyone).

Im finding this just now! I’ve asked OR and awaiting a response as i didn’t have this the last time i used them. I was hoping i could “switch” off setting
