Deposit Protection return after 5 years?

My tenant has told me that it is a requirement that I return his deposit to him after 5 years of trouble free renting. I told him that I have never heard of this and would check it out.

rubbish it stays put as long as the tenancy

Haha. I would love to know where your tenant got that information from. Sounds like they’re trying to pull a fast one. As Colin says, the deposit is held for the duration of the tenancy.

Nice try, sunshine. Move along now.

That’s rubbish. My tenant just left after 14 years and I’ve returned his full deposit despite some damage. I reckon 14 years he deserved his full deposit returned

You returned the full deposit at your descession, which is very good of you, but you still held it until the tenancy ended.
I’ve no idea where some people get their ideas!

You appear to have difficulty understanding the concept of a deposit.
