Just a heads-up for landlords operating in the Borough. The Council’s new Selective Licensing scheme begins today in almost all wards and will necessitate a licence for any any non-HMO property let as a permanent home.
The Council are offering a discount to any landlord who applies before April, but what they’re not telling you is that if you don’t apply for the licence today you will be in breach of the legislation and potentially subject to a Rent Repayment Order and unable to use s21 to evict tenants until the licence application has been made.
Outrageous. They say it is to pay for the various serious hazards they occasionally find in private rented property. Of course that is BS. But even if it is true, why should good landlords constantly be expected to cover the sins of the bad ones? Why be good when you are going to made to pay as if you were bad anyway?
Just another tax . If bad tenants were evicted quick I would be happy not that I have had any …I think the private rented sector is doomed. I have a meeting this month with my accountant I am going to get rid of some places . I never thought I would say that , but the best days are behind us Too much legislation. I hope I live to see the day when tenants and thegoverment are stuffed because of the hassle
