Improving the private rental sector in East London

Hi everyone

Since 2019, Toynbee Hall (https://www.toynbeehall.org.uk/) has been conducting research with young private renters to understand their experiences in the private rental sector. The research aims to understand what the challenges are for young people in maintaining a tenancy.

During the next stage of the project, we want to speak to private landlords who have rented a property to tenants in East London over the past five years. We are looking for landlords who would be willing to:

  • Take part in an interview to confidentially give their perspective as a landlord on the challenges of the private rental sector. They will receive a £10 ‘thank you’. Please see the attached briefing. Interviews will be conducted by students at Solent University.

And/or

  • Take part in one or more online workshops through Toynbee Hall with young private renters to design solutions to the issues uncovered in the research. For example, increasing advice available to tenants and landlords; or developing better communication channels between letting agents, landlords and tenants.

If you would like to take part in an interview or express an interest in participating in the workshops, please let me know here or email research@toynbeehall.org.uk.

Best wishes
