Hi there, just want to check with others as I’ve not used this service before. Seen an advert for a property on Facebook, emailed the landlord and enquired. I’ve asked to arrange a viewing to which he replied, that as he lives abroad and he uses open rent for rental procedures. He’s asked for information (name, address, ID) and a deposit through open rent to then collect the keys for viewing, then if I’m happy with the property to go ahead with contract signing and if not then I get the deposit back. Is this normal/legitimate before even seeing the property?

Don’t give any money to anyone before you have agreed to become the tenant…. And especially before viewing!! Say you will make your mind up after viewing - he will have to suck it up.
