Maximum deposit on 6 month AST

I have a tenancy about to commence on a 6 month term.
If it were 12 month it would be clear to me.
The rental is £5500.00 per month . If it were over a 12 month tenancy it would be over the 50k amount and I could ask for 6 weeks deposit= £7615.38
However as it is 6 months can I still ask for the same amount ? ( and base it on a 12 month term/ basis)
Or does it have to be only 5 weeks of the amount based over 6 months? So 5500x6/26=1269 per week
Please advise

  • a refundable tenancy deposit capped at no more than 5 weeks’ rent where the total annual rent is less than £50,000, or 6 weeks’ rent where the total annual rent is £50,000 or above

Thanks for the response. But if the AST is only 6 months. Is the deposit still based on a twelve month period?

so £5500 per month x 12= 66,000.00 / 52 weeks = £1269.23 per week x 6 weeks= £7615.38
