Run in the other direction. Never commit to anything until you are 100% sure and all checks have been carried out and present successfully.
As you are new to the game, I’d suggest you research into being a LL as much as you can before you start, but also start with someone who presents with no issues, acquaintance or not.

I would agree with Marc7, you’re better off not using an agent. I have done it myself ever sine we started renting out back in 2013. Only one flat and never had a bad experience. You have to do the right checks, with Openrent, and go with your gut feeling. I have said many no’s to people that just didn’t feel right.
