I have a property managed by an agent.
The agent found the tenants and signed a contract with them. The tenants pay the monthly rent to the agent, who then deducts his fees, and sends the remainder to me.
I now want to deal with the tenants directly without the agent in the middle.
Is that possible?
Would I need to make a (say) short term contract directly with the tenant?

TBH it sounds by your questions as if you would be better off letting the agent handle this. There is no such thing as a “short term contract”.
If you’re determined, then whether your idea is possible or not will depend on the contract you signed with the agent. The contract may prevent you from releasing the agents while the tenants they found are still in situ. Or there may be a fee to pay.
Do you have a copy of the contract? If not, ask the agent to provide one.

A. You no longer want to use the agent for any services (sorting out maintenance, annual boiler/gas safety record, repairs, dealing with tenants etc)
B. You want agent to carry on with services as before but when there is a problem or issue the tenants tell you first then you instruct the agent how to deal
C. You want tenants to pay you direct then you pay agent separately for their services
D Something else (Explain)
3. If you tell us what you actually want and why, folk here can advise. Where is the property (different options in England from wales). In brief tho it is entirely possible to DIY landlord and not use an agent but moving from or changing current contract will need ending or amending contracts with agent agreement and/or tenants so may have an exit cost
