Rent date change

I had to change my rent date. My contract has renewed and my landlord has requested a payment for the extra days is this correct? As i see it ive still been in the property the same amount of time i just changed the payment dates to align with a new job ive never missed a months rent?

This topic comes up regularly. You can search through historical threads to see for yourself. Your landlord is correct in demanding a pro rata rent payment to cover the rent from the contracted day the rent is due to the date that has been agreed.

You changed from what date to what date?

Why do you think LL should allow you to live rent-free during these few days that make a difference because you “never missed the rent”? Paying the rent is not a favour but a contractual obligation. LL doesn’t owe you any favours in return.

I don’t ask for the amount to be changed. I just class it as a persistent late payment that I have accepted. If I did this every time a tenant has a change in pay date it would drive me nuts

Asking for an extra payment is a perfectly legitimate way of changing the payment date, but its not recommended. It causes confusion with the period of the tenancy for both parties and if one or the other has to serve notice, they are often not sure what dates to put.

If that’s your only option then its not something to worry about, but seek further advice if you ever want to give notice.
