Screwed over by potential openrent landlord

Hi,

I placed a deposit down for a property. The landlady couldn’t decide with the previous tenant on when they were leaving, which delayed the contract being issued. We agreed upon a date for me to move in, but she forgot to send the contract. This resulted in my deposit being returned. In the hour after she reposted the ad someone else paid the holding deposit. I understand that I could have been faster/ better organised, but this landlord has wasted my time, and I have missed other potential properties because of this.

Does openrent have any way to penalise this behaviour, or is this just what we have to deal with?

Thanks in advance.

I’m a bit confused. I assume you used the RentNow process to pay the holding deposit. The landlord has 96 hours to accept or reject the holding deposit on Openrent. They are unable to issue you the contract without accepting your holding deposit, as the process simply doesn’t allow it. If the LL doesn’t accept or reject your deposit in that initial 96 hours then it is automatically refunded to the tenant. Is that what happened?
