Sickness so contract broken

My daughter has been told by the doctor not to return to university this year due to health reasons- he has written a letter to say this. However, the landlord in Liverpool is telling me that if I dont get another student in, I as I am her guarantor have to pay her rent until July 2025. I have been trying to get her room rented but have had no luck. I am very worried about this situation. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks. Someone wanted to go in the house a s a worker but he wants a student.

The Landlord is within his rights to hold you to your contract.

Have you tried speaking to her housemates, and the Students Union to see if they might be able to help you find a replacement tenant? There must be some students still not sorted accommodation for the current year.

I’m not a Student Landlord, but I understand he’ll need a student to avoid complications over the Council Tax etc

I guess then, please make sure you have read your Daughters rental contract & your Guarantor agreement to make sure you know what your liabilities are, and that the Landlord isn’t expecting more than you are liable for.

What have you tried so far?
