Slug in the house 🤢

How do I deal with slug in the house? Moved in about 3 weeks ago . Have been having various issues . Went downstairs at late night hours for the first time . Switched on the lights to find a slug creeping around . Sprayed on it and caught it in a bottle . Does that mean the house has slug infestation too ?:nauseated_face::nauseated_face: and what do I do to get rid of them ? I have placed a lot of stuff in the store room (clothes / books / photographs etc) and now I doubt that it appeared from there only. Is it safe to leave the stuff there where there’s an infestation ? It was crawling almost near to the kitchen area .

Is it common to find a slug in the house ?

Please let me know what can be done :weary:

Sprinkle salt overnight
Or go and buy slug pellets
It’s usually because of damp or an entrance ( hole in brick) giving them access

If it’s only one slug…not likely to be an ‘infestation’!!!
Just monitor and take pics!
Not nice but not uncommon …especially in older houses!

We had slugs. The house was old and damp issue were prevalent. when we dug out the ground and insulated it , dpc and tanked I thought the problem went away.
We still had evidence ( slime stained cobweb behind washing machine )
Then, I found the hole the plumber didn’t fill where washing machine waste went out
It’s been filled
I hope that solves the problem

I had seen slug in living room. Removed carpet got wooden flooring after a year. Still there was gap in skirting left by fitter. Finally I have filled that gap. So no more sightings now.

There’s no such thing as slug infested house; slug that appeared indoors must have found an opening to enter from the outside. You need to find that opening and seal it.

Thanks ! Heard pallets are not available in the Uk anymore . Also have a young child . Are pallets safe to use ?

Salt is ok

You’ll have to read the packet
I’m not an insecticide specialist

You can still buy pellets

A saucer of beer will attract slugs, I use it to guard my lettuces in the garden.

Killing it won’t help solve the problem. Find the opening it entered through. They leave a trail…

What do slug trails look like? I have googled images of trails . It’s just like slimy wet streaks but I’m afraid it won’t be visible on brown wooden floor. are the trails harmful ?

only if you slip over on them when fresh

If you have to ask that question, then you really don’t have a massive problem with slugs. Their trails are obvious shiny streaks across hard paving/flooring such as kitchen and bathroom floors. Slug and their trails are not in any way harmful to residents so you have nothing to fear from them in that regard. Find where they are coming from (check air bricks, openings for pipes to bathroom or kitchen) and pour salt around the openings.

I have even found them on and in damp chimney stacks. (At least there the hedgehogs cannot get them )

Snail slime is beneficial to humans
It’s sold in pots in Holland and Barrett
The chemical properties reduce wrinkles
An accidental finding, workers on snail farms in Chile had less wrinkles on their hands than the rest of their body

So I’m guessing the slime is the same composition
You could see if it prevents wrinkles

Yes my thoughts, one slug! Not an infestation. Get some pellets not salt! Cruel

I suggested salt to avoid accidental ingestion because there is a child in the house
The pellets look like tic tacs so a child could think it was candy

Er…

Slug pellets are a contact poison that damages slug mucus cells and causes them to release excessive amounts of slime to the point that the slug eventually dehydrates and dies.
