Hi I am buying a flat and want to terminate the lease agreement. Assuming a completion date for the flat I am buying on 17th April 2025, and given that my lease automatically renews every 17th of the month, when should be the termination date the 16th or the 17th of April. I don’t want to pay one month for nothing. Also I submitted 17th April 2025 by mistake while I haven’t exchange contract yet and it might be a complete different completion date so you like to undo what I did but I don’t know how to do this with this plate form. It sounds like you need to try to negotiate a more flexible arrangement with your landlord, where he allows you to serve a short notice once the dates are fixed and you just pay any extra time by the day. I usually allow this.
If this is not possible, then you would need to serve notice before 17 March to end on 16 April. You might need a hotel for a night.
In the grand scheme of things, paying one extra months rent doesn’t sound excessive, if you are buying a flat. Regardless of your wishes to not pay an extra month, you would be well advised not to serve notice on your Landlord until you have exchanged contracts and know 100% you are buying the flat.Otherwise you could end up with nowhere to live, as your rental contract ends and your flat purchase hasn’t completed.
